Florida Vacation Parts 5 and 6

Florida Vacation Part 5: Hurricane Fay...you suck!

At the beginning of the week we heard some rumblings of a hurricane hitting Florida but we did pay much attention, my dad said we would just be rained out one day. As the storm hit Florida, the meteorologists predicted that it would hit just south of us after it swung back over the ocean. Dad thought we might want to back up and leave on Wednesday night since no electricity may not be that fun with two kiddos, but truthfully I wanted to brave it out because I just wasn't ready for the trip back yet! The thought of now power and hurricane winds was much more appealing than the thought of driving back up north with the kiddos.

The hurricane was downgraded to a tropical storm and we decided to stay for the duration that we originally intended. It rained for the last three days we were in Florida but we didn't mind since we were playing our new wii! Ben has been looking into the wii for some time now and the thought of being stuck indoors for three days meant a wii purchase. We played tennis and boxing and we had the sore muscles to show for it. I wonder if doctor's have seen an increase in patients due to wii injuries because it really works your arm muscles!

We survived Tropical Storm Fay. As much as it stunk to be rained out at the beach, I actually didn't mind it because it gave us a great excuse to do nothing but veg around the house. The rain stopped just in time for Ben to pack the car and for us to make our way home on Friday night.

Florida Vacation Part 6: This is the ride that never ends!

We decided to change it around a bit for the ride home and we left at bed time and hoped the kiddos would sleep as we drove through the night...boy were wrong again!!!

We left at 7:30, which is Cami's usual bedtime. She decided it would be more fun to play with the straps of her car seat and her feet for the next two hours and she was still awake at 9:30! At this point, she was so overtired that she couldn't fall asleep and she cried and cried and screamed and cried some more. Brayden had fallen asleep around 9 so he also woke up due to her incessant crying. We pulled over multiple times to let her out of her car seat and try to calm her down. As soon as she was out of the car seat, she was happy as a clam but the second her body hit her seat again, the crying and screaming ensued. By about 1:00 am, we had had enough and decided that we needed to stop at a hotel and let her sleep for a couple of hours. Everyone got some rest except me because Cami felt the need to sleep on top of me, which is not particularly comfortable considering I am a belly sleeper and she weighs over 16 pounds!

We headed off the next morning around 6:30 am, stopped for breakfast around 8 and we hoped to be home by 1:30...boy were we wrong again! We were making great time, the kiddos were somewhat happy but it all came to an end when we hit major traffic between D.C. and Baltimore. We tried all the alternate routes that the Garmin gave us but everywhere we went there was traffic...and apparently Cami hates traffic as do her father and I but we don't scream and cry about it.

I would have to say that Cami cried for the last three hours of the trip, which made each minute seem like an eternity! We finally got home around 3:30 pm...so about 14 hours of drive time with a 5 hour rest stop, better but still not great. I have never been so happy to be home. Cami went down for a major nap and Brayden ran into the house and screamed "I am gonna play all my toys!" I unpacked and then had a glass (or two) of wine to relax...it was fabulous and much needed after our crazy Florida vacation.

Kel, I finally got around to reading some more of your blog - it is fun to read!

I saw you have a WII! We have one too - if you figure it out, email me your console name, apparently we should be able to play online against other people! (I don't know how to do this yet either). So in case you get sick of playing against Ben ;)

The pics of the kids are great!
