Was it a coincidence or just fate?

I posted some pics yesterday for Wordless Wednesday of a usual day at our house and my friend, Jenn wrote this comment:

No poo??? Yeah don't fall for it this is not the normal day just the one we like to remember!

Well, I don't know if it was just a coincidence or fate but we were having a great day. We met Mum for lunch and both kiddos took long afternoon naps...life was good. I got out of the house for a little trip to Target to replace the sunglasses that Brayden had destroyed the day before and I get a call from Ben that Brayden had puked all over the couch and it was bad! He got all four couch cushions and it was a mess.

So today has been a sick day...no more puke but he just isn't himself. He is having a lay on the couch, cuddle with mommy and watch his shows type of day. Hopefully whatever he has will pass without getting the rest of us, especially Cami. This is our second stomach bug in a month...why are these germs so toxic and why do they always get us! Do we have particularly weak immune systems or are we just that unlucky? So Jenn, you are totally right. It was not a normal day and it was definitely not one that I would like to remember but it is definitely one that I can't seem to forget!

And for those of you who are wondering...No, there will not being a puke pics posted because as I said, I was at Target but if I had been home, I would have definitely grabbed the camera. I just don't think it's fair that I should be the only one who has to suffer through all the gross bodily stuff that comes along with the kiddos. I like to share because that's what my momma taught me!

Happy Anniversay to Us!

Today is our 4th wedding anniversary. I can't believe that it has been 4 years...it has gone by so fast. There has been so much that has happened over the past 4 years, the two biggest being Brayden and Cami.

It was such a hot, hot July day but it was one of the best day's of my life. If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't change a single thing! Well, maybe I would pay that extra money to keep the reception going an extra hour because we were having so much fun!

I would post some pics but I don't have any on the computer. About 2 years ago, we lost our laptop and with it went our life before the kids. We had just had Brayden and another laptop so most his newborn pics were on both computers but the pics of the wedding that guests sent us, pics of our puppy, pics of the house being built and all our vacations...all gone! Ben's computer guy tried to salvage them but all he got out of the computer was a couple of paper's I wrote to get my Master's degree...not what I was looking for!

So you will have to use your imagination...all I can say is I was young, thin and I looked fabulous! Ben looked kind of handsome too but I took the show...as every bride should.

Happy Anniversary to us, hopefully we will have many more happy years together as we watch this little family we have made grow!

What's on your nightstand?

5 minutes for books is hosting a "What's On Your Nightstand" carnival and I have decided to play along.

Just Finished: I just recently finished "The Constant Princess" by Philippa Gregory. She wrote "The Other Boelyn Girl," which I read over the winter and this book was the first in Henry VIII series. I really like "The Other Boelyn Girl" so I thought I would go back to the beginning. The book was about Catherine of Aragon and her relationship with Henry VIII brother, Arthur. She was betrothed and married to him and he was to be the next king of England but he died 6 months into their marriage and she went on to marry Henry. It was really interesting and a good read. I'd give it a B, maybe B+.

In Progress: Sticking with the historical fiction theme, I am about 3/4th of the way done Philippa Gregory's follow up to "The Other Boelyn Girl" called "The Boelyn Inheritance." I really, really like this book. I started on Sunday and should finish today if that doesn't tell you how much I like it. It is about wives number 4 (Anne of Cleves) and number 5 (Katherine Howard, who was Anne Boelyn's cousin and met a very similar fate as her). It has been really interesting to watch her development of King Henry as he has gone from a boy recently crowned to a fat, sickly old man. So far, I would give this an A-.

Up Next: I am so excited about the next book on the nightstand. It is by Jen Lancaster and it has the funniest title. It's called "Bitter is the New Black: Confessions of a Condescending, Egomaniacal, Self-Centered Smart Ass, Or, Why you Should Never Carry a Prada Bag to the Unemployment Office." I have heard that Jen Lancaster is really funny and I could use a good laugh after all of the wife killing I have been reading about with Henry VIII!

Her sin has been washed away!

Like she had any to begin with! Maybe being just too darn cute!

Cami's baptism went off without a hitch...well except for the part where the priest forgot that she was to be baptized so we had twenty some friends and family sitting in a hot, dark church for 45 minutes! That was fun...not so much. Cami still has only a short period of happy time and she was dressed like an angel but her angelic time was slowly ticking away with each minute of the clock.

The baptism finally started and she was just perfect in every way. She was intrigued by father and especially the singing. She even laughed at one point when he was singing to her. She did not like the whole water on the head thing but what girl wants her hair messed up right before her big party! She even fell asleep at the end and most of the pictures with our family include one sleeping little lady. Not how I pictured them but I can't complain.

Brayden was also a perfect little man. He brought his two favorite trains and played for most of the ceremony...in the center aisle but he was quiet so I let that go. He even jumped in some pictures at the end, which totally surprised me but I guess he was feeling that he wasn't the center of attention and wanted to get back to the position he has held for the past two years.

Since we were about an hour behind schedule (and we all know how much I love a schedule and how much I hate it when I have to stray from that schedule), Cami slept through her entire party. She had the cutest little pink and brown party dress that her great grandma gave her when she was born but she hardly got to show it off! I love the pink and brown combo and how did my grandma know that brown is the new black. She is one hip and trendy lady...both Cami and Great Grandma!

It was a fun party and it was great to see family and friends from near and far. I especially want to give a shout out to the godparents, my cousin Megan who traveled from Buffalo to be here for Cami and my brother-in-law Bill. Thanks for supporting Cami as her godparents. I know that you will always have a special a place in your heart for her and she for you.

If you build it, they will come!

There is a new handy man around this house and his name is Brayden. He definitely taking after his Daddy with the whole good at fixing things and going into the basement to play with my tools business.

Our neighbors have loaned us a Little Tikes playhouse for outside. It is awesome and I am very, very thankful. Those playhouses run a pretty penny to buy. My neighbor and her boys brought over the playhouse in pieces (Don't ask...it's better left unsaid!) Ben was putting Cami to bed and he came out to see his new project for the night, that is before he cut the grass...it was already about 8. Needless to say, he was very happy or at least he didn't show is annoyedness on the outside. Is annoyedness a word? If not, then I am really turning into Ben and I have started making up words...very distressing.

Anyways, Ben says he needs to go back into the house for his tools. He goes and Brayden goes running behind. I am chatting with neighbor and realize that Brayden is not in the garage as I thought but he is in the house. Not worried because Ben is in there but I pop my head in to check on him and Brayden is over at his workbench collecting his tools and putting them in his take-along tool box. It was too cute! He did this all on his own accord. He heard Daddy say tools and he went to get his own. He is such a mini-Ben.

Here are some pics of the boys putting the new-to-us playhouse together and by the way, Brayden loves it!
This last one is when Brayden realized I was taking the pictures. Apparently this is a boys only playhouse...Brayden has another thing coming to him when Cami gets a little bigger and a little more mobile!

Thursday Thirteen - Favorite Things Edition

Here are some of my favorite things now that I am a mommy of two:

  1. Joovy Caboose Ultralight Stroller - I just got this stroller today and I am already in love with the sleek design, ease of use and the fact that it only weighs 21 pounds!
  2. Podee Bottles - Love, love, love these bottles. I used them with Brayden and he was able to drink his bottles while driving in the car...definite time saver and happy child maker.
  3. DVR - I couldn't live without it. Makes nap time, mommy's TV show time. I can watch my shows in peace without hubby or kiddo interruptions.
  4. Gymboree clothes for girls! - Gymboree clothes for girls are so cute. I adore them and they have some fabulous sales every now and then.
  5. Fisher Price Jumperoo - Cami loves her jumperoo that she inherited from her bro. It keeps her happy and occupied for at least a couple of minutes so mommy can get the dishes done.
  6. The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on Disney Channel - Brayden loves all things Mickey. He actually laughs out loud at Donald and all his wild antics.
  7. Fisher Price Bouncy Seat - We bought Cami this new bouncy seat since Brayden used and abused his. She loves it. She is obsessed with grabbing the parrot. Great infant entertainment.
  8. Dr. Browns Bottles - BPA Free - The whole BPA issue really freaked me out so I went out and bought Cami these bottles and they are a dream. No more painful gas for her, which means better sleep and happier baby.
  9. Vera Bradley Diaper Bag - I love my Vera Bradley Diaper Bag. It makes carrying a diaper bag stylish and cool.
  10. Halo Sleep Sack Swaddle - This is great! Even my little escape artist Cami couldn't get out of this swaddler.
  11. Take Along Thomas Playset - This was a birthday gift for Brayden and he will play with it for hours. That makes for one great toy in my opinion!
  12. Dell Inspiron Laptop Computer - I love my Dell laptop. It is great to be able to have a computer so accessible to me during the day. It helps me stay connected to the world and makes this whole blogging thing possible!
  13. Pampers Diapers - Although they are the most expensive, we just love them. They work far better in terms of absorption and preventing diaper rash than the other brands, which we tried with dire results!

I just thought of one more so we will make this one, 13A.

Moby Wrap - It was an absolute must when Cami was a newborn and Brayden needed my attention. I wore it every day, twice a day. It looks complicated but it's not. It was a lifesaver at the park, playground and around the house. Cami loved it. She slept for hourse all snug in there.

My name is Kelly and I have a problem...

I am addicted to strollers. Why, I don't know but I am and I admit it. I have just added to our collection and I am so excited for it to be delivered. I am also quite proud of the great deal I found so I thought I would share in case their are any other stroller addicts out there or anyone looking for a new stroller.

My new stroller is the Joovy Caboose Ultra-light Stand On Stroller in Red. It is a limited edition and usually retails for 330 buckaroos but I got it for $200 with free shipping from Amazon. It was an early Christmas gift from my parents so I really got them a great deal and I got a great stroller. I can't wait to try it out with the kiddos. It should be delivered tomorrow and I only ordered it on Monday...Amazon is amazingly fast sometimes!
I will give a full report when it arrives and we get to try it out. Until then, I will be constantly checking UPS and tracking my new stroller!

Wordless Wednesday - That Stinks!

Don't forget to stop and smell the black-eyed susans!

Like Mother, Like Daughter

I am always told that Cami is my spitting image. What do you think? I don't know if I see the resemblance but maybe it's just because she just looks like Cami to me, you know what I mean.

Mmm...Sweet Potatoes are gooood!

Cami will eat rice cereal but only a few bites and absolutely hates oatmeal so I decided to let her try sweet potatoes and she loved them! She was crying for me to give her more and she ate over half the jar on her first try. It was great to feed a kiddo that actually wants to eat. Brayden was never (and still isn't) into the whole eating food thing. There are many nights where Brayden flat out refuses to eat dinner and doesn't even ask for a snack. I guess he just isn't into food...so not my kid but Cami really seems to be enjoying it so far.

We'll see how the rest of the veggies go. Brayden hasn't eaten a veggie since he was on jarred food and I am hoping and praying that Cami doesn't go down this same route. Is it a pain to have to constantly worry that the little man is missing many important vitamins and minerals!

Why oh why will he not eat...oh yeah because he is Ben's child and Ben could skip breakfast and lunch and barely blink an eye, unlike me! Fortunately for me (and maybe unfortunately for Cami) she tends to take after me in this whole eating business. She loves her some sweet potatoes. Off to go give my princess whatever she wants...especially if it is healthy and good for her!

Sorry the pic is so blurry...Ben was the photographer for a change.

Brayden's First Day of Camp

So we survived our first day of camp at the preschool that Brayden will be attending in the fall. I say "we" because I think it was just as hard on me as it was for him or maybe even harder on me!

I had him all excited for preschool. We talked about what he would do and he watched his Wonder Pets show where the Wonder Pets help a blow fish go to preschool. I think he really thought that he was go to preschool with the Wonder Pets. He kept saying in the car that he was going to preschool to see the fish and when I asked him where we were driving to, he said to the pool to go to preschool. It was pretty funny!

So we get to preschool and we go in and he immediately clings to my leg. I pass him off to his teacher, give him a kiss and I am off. I did not want to linger but the parking lot was crazy and I couldn't get out of my parking space for awhile and Brayden knows my car so he was not happy. I drove by and he was sobbing so I tried to hold it together but I called Ben on the cell phone and sobbed too! In fact, I am crying now just thinking about it.

Cami and I went out and ran some errands and had some girl time together. It was quiet around the house but almost too quiet. I really missed my little man. I kept looking at the clock to see if it was time to pick him up.

Finally, the time came and I picked up Brayden and he was so happy to see me and I was so happy to see him. He was all smiles and had a great day! He talked non-stop on the way home in the car. He told me he had fun at the playground and that he colored with crayons. He even made a puppet! I asked him if he wanted to go back to preschool and he said very nonchalantly "yeah, okay." What a cutie!

Six Things You Need to Know About Me...

Six quirky things about me...

  1. I hate being late. It really stresses me out. It is one of my biggest pet peeves...people who are late!
  2. Although the house may look clean on the outside, the drawers and closets are a mess! I like things to look clean and tidy but it doesn't bother me at all that all our drawers and closets are an absolute disaster. If I can't see it, then it doesn't exist.
  3. I am scared of the dark. I am a complete baby and hate being home alone at night. Everyone always said it would change once I had kids, but it has not!
  4. I am a closet Celine Dion fan...well not so much in the closet after American Idol Karaoke night with some fellow mommies. I know all her songs by heart and have all the CD's and would definitely go see her in concert if I had the opportunity.
  5. I hate cats. They terrify me. You just never know what they are thinking. One minute they are your friend and the next minute the are clawing at you. Scary little creatures!
  6. I wash, blow dry and curl my hair every day. I have the world's thinnest hair and I have to curl it to give it body. It sucks because it takes me about half an hour to get ready and I usually have two kiddos at my feet but it has to be done...well according to me!

Thanks to Jenn for tagging me. I am tagging Amy, Jenn, Dawn, Val and Heidi

Happy Birthday to Me!

Yesterday was my birthday and it was such a great day!

We went to the pool with Mum and Grandpa. It was a super hot and humid day so the pool was the place to be. Cami went in the pool for the first time. She only got her little tootsies wet but she loved hanging out with daddy on the side of the pool. Brayden went into the big boy pool with Grandpa and played some hoops. He loves basketball and the pool so combine the two and he is toddler heaven!

Daddy took the kiddos home for nap time and I went off to go to the mall ALONE! It was great to actually get to try on clothes and go back to the dressing room multiple times without trying to appease a screaming baby and an antsy toddler.

The whole trip to the mall stemmed from me buying a dress for Cami's baptism while shopping with the kiddos. I grabbed the dress and went to try it on...I know I was asking for it by even trying to take the double stroller with two kiddos cranky for lunch but I guess I was feeling extra confident in my mothering skills this day.

Well, I get in the dressing room and have the dress on when both kids go into melt down. I mean, Brayden was whining but Cami was full out freaking out. I am trying to take the dress off and change back into my clothes while Cami's crying is getting louder by the second. At one point the woman from the store actually knocked on the dressing room door and asked if she could help me with anything...yeah, how about a mommy double. So one mommy can take the kids to the food court for lunch and the other mommy can get her shopping done. That would be ideal!

Anyways, I run out of the dressing room with the dress. It fits but I didn't really get to look at it. I get it home and realize that it is ripping at the seams in the bust. Bummer!!! So I went back Saturday to exchange the dress and shop for a new outfit for my birthday night out with Ben.

We went out to our favorite dinner spot and then went to see an awesome firework display. It was so much fun to sit with hubby in the dark and watch the fireworks light up the sky. It was a big bang to end my fabulous birthday...and no I won't be telling you how old I am...not because I am embarrassed but because I like to keep you all guessing ;)

Swingin' Time for Cami

Cami went on her first swing ride at the playground. She is just about five months old now and is really good at holding her head and body up. She absolutely loved it. Cami was all smiles and giggles. What a cutie pie!

Look at what a good sport daddy is... It's like a million degrees and when you put on the Snuggli with the baby, you could probably sweat off at least ten pounds...maybe I should have been wearing it!

Highway Berry Pickers!

So in the past couple of days I have seen cars with their four ways flashing on the shoulder near the exit of the highway that I drive on everyday. The drivers are out of the car and rummaging through the brush picking berries???

The first time I saw a car pulled over there and a man rummaging through the brush, I thought to myself or maybe I said it out loud to the kiddos, which we all know is really like talking to yourself, "Man, he must have lost something seriously important to take his life into his own hands and go into the gross brush on the side of the highway." Well, he is taking his life into his own hands for highway berries...why?

First of all, YUCK! Think of all the exhaust from the all the cars and trucks. I am totally grossed out by the thought of eating anything grown on the side of a major thoroughfare.

Second, why risk it man! Are the berries that good? Does the exhaust and other pollution make the berries extra sweet and tasty (not that I will ever find out!)? I mean there is hardly a shoulder and the cars drive really fast...one minute you are picking berries and the next you are roadkill.

I am just so utterly confused and grossed out by this and it wasn't just this one guy either. Almost everyday this week, I have seen someone pulled over berry picking. I know berries are expensive but I will never resort to stopping on the highway to pick tomorrow morning's breakfast...that is the truth!

So all drivers, beware of the berry pickers. I would hate to see anyone responsible for hurting one of the many hungry highway berry pickers. And if you are a highway berry picker yourself, please enlighten me.

Almost there...

Cami has been trying to roll over so hard from back to belly. She can get all the way over onto her belly but she just can't get over her shoulder...which is really weird to see. It looks as though she would be in pain doing this move but she just keeps trying.

I think she may have by the end of the week and once she does, I think she will be a stomach sleeper. Right now she sleeps on her side but in this weird arched back way. It's hard to describe so I will have to snap a pic tonight.

I hope I don't wake her since Ben will totally yell at me. I can just here him know...you woke the sleeping giant just for a pic for your blog!!! The actual version will probably have curse words and a lot more exclamation points at the end...so I will have to take my chances just to show you my little cutie pie. It'll be worth it. She is just getting so big and I just want to capture each and every cute (and weird) thing that she does.

A Jungle Walk...Go Diego Go

Brayden went on a "jungle" walk today set up by one of the most creative mother's in our playgroup, Sarah. The "jungle" is the woods by Sarah's house that used to be part of a camp, so there was a trail that they kids could follow. Sarah bought the kids safari hats and the kids went into the jungle to help Dora find her backpack.
Brayden was super excited to go on the jungle walk and see all the animals (as he said) but when we first entered the jungle, Brayden was a little scared and wanted Mommy to hold him. We came up to the first animal (Sarah had blow up animals placed all over the woods with little treats for the kids) and Brayden got really excited to see the animal so he decided that he could get down and walk like a big boy but he still wanted to hold Mommy's hand.
Brayden picked all sorts of treats but he was most excited about his butterfly/bug net and his bug box. After we found Dora's purple backpack, we brought the backpack back to Sarah's house, where Dora was waiting to greet us with snacks and juice.
We had such a good time and it was so nice to spend some quality time with my little man. Cami hung out at home with her Mum...remember that is grandma for the rest of you. Brayden was so excited to come home and show Mum all his goodies that he collected in his Diego rescue pack, which we brought along from home and which he wore the whole time! Thanks Sarah for putting so much time and effort into this event. We had a fantastic time...we can't wait to see what you cook up next.

Book MeMe

Mel at Life is like a box of chocolates kind of tagged me, well I more like tagged myself but at her somewhat request, but I thought this meme was really cool so here are the rules:

1. Pick up the nearest book.
2. Open to page 123
3. Find the 5th sentence
4. Post the next three sentences
5. Tag five people, and acknowledge who tagged you.

The closest book to me is the book I just started today, "The Costant Princess" by Phillipa Gregory.

"Sir Richard Pole or any of Arthur's gentlemen can come to my rooms without notice and think that they are paying me a compliment. The English seem to think it right and normal that men and women should mix. I have not yet seen a house with rooms that are exclusive to women, and no women goes veiled as we sometime did in Spain, not even when traveling, not even among stangers."

Hmmm...I don't know if that will make you want to read the book or not. In fact, I don't really know the pretext of that excerpt because I am only on page 41. The story is about Catherine and her first marriage to Arthur, Henry VIII's brother and her eventual experience as Henry's first wife. It's by the author of "The Other Boelyn Girl."

I am tagging some of my fellow book clubbies and some PMB's:
  1. Jenn K.
  2. Sarah
  3. Amy
  4. Jo-Lynne
  5. Val

Video of Cami laughing at Daddy

Here is the video of Cami laughing at her Daddy, whom is the only one who can make her laugh!

A day at the pool

Today we took Brayden and Cami over to my parent's country club for their first outing to the pool this season...yes, I know summer is halfway over but we just couldn't get our act together until today. Brayden really enjoyed the kiddie pool but he especially enjoyed making footprints on the concrete around the pool deck.

This year the country club put in a huge sliding board so Ben went down and Brayden was so jealous. I don't think he understands that at the bottom of the slide is 10 feet of water and that he doesn't know how to swim. He said "My turn now" and Mommy said "No way, Jose" and temper tantrum was imminent but Daddy being the smart man he is diverted Brayden's attention to the big boy pool. Ben was throwing Brayden in the air, which he loved but mommy did not. Do you see why? Brayden is super high and this mommy is a bit of a worry wart so the throwing stopped with mommy's order.
Cami sat in the shade with her mum (that is grandma for those of you who don't know...don't ask how she came up with that...I don't know.) It was Cami's first time in her swimsuit and she looks just too cute. I love her big floppy hat that Aunt Lauren bought her. It is the perfect accessory for the fashion conscience baby, which she totally is...or at least her mommy is for her!
Papa came down for lunch after he finished up his round of golf and we headed home for nap time. Both kiddos are sleeping and mommy is considering going outside on the deck to get a little sun and read a book, while daddy cuts the grass. It has been the perfect summer day...so far!

Oh yeah, Big Brother starts tonight so I am so excited for that. Now it really feels like summer to me with my horrible, reality TV show that draws me in every year!

"I love these balls!"

Here is a video of Brayden at Owen's birthday party playing with his favorite balls. I have no idea why it is side ways???

Party #2 at My Gym...Happy Birthday Owen!

After a very short nap, we were off to our second birthday party of the day. Brayden's friend Owen is turning two and his birthday party was at My Gym, which is a local gym and play place for kids. Brayden is taking a class at My Gym this summer and he just loves this place so he was excited for Owen's party. He had a great time playing and best of all, the teachers brought out Brayden's favorite special activity...the pink beach balls. They have these giant hooks in the ceiling and they hook different things in them, like swings and Brayden's favorite pink beach balls. Brayden loves pulling the balls down, which are attached to elastic, and letting them go while screaming boom. It is hilarious and Brayden walks around and informs everybody in his general area that "I love these balls." It is hilarious because he is totally on this kick that he "loves" everything. After he hears a song on the ipod that he likes, he says "I love that song"...too cute.
Happy birthday Owen. We hope that you had just as much fun as Brayden at your birthday party. We hope you enjoy your new Thomas the train set...even though it is not Percy!

Party #1 at the zoo... Happy Birthday Brynn!

We started off our day of birthday's at Brynn's celebration at a small local zoo. Brayden really loves this zoo and it is the perfect size for toddlers, the whole zoo can be done in about an hour and there is lots of shade (good for babies and hot adults!) The highlight of the day was definitely the duck pond and the pony rides. As I have mentioned before Brayden absolutely loves pony rides and the best part of today's pony rides were that they were free! Brayden rode the pony named Chocolate and he had great time...is he a future equestrian? I think he may be too tall for that sport. Here are some pics I took at the zoo of the two kiddos and the husband. I don't think I got any of the birthday girl, but we hope you had a fabulous birthday Brynn and that you enjoy learning to be a princess or should I say more of a princess than you already are!
