My brother, Chip and his girlfriend, Katie flew down to Florida on Thursday night and they had quite a bit of travel nightmares themselves! My brother was stuck on the tarmac for 3 hours before the flight finally took off...just think how much more that would have sucked if Ben had had his way and we flew down instead.
My parents drove down to Florida and arrived on Friday afternoon. They had the best journey of us all but I guess I can forgive them since they used to make the drive with my brother and I and we each got to bring a friend...and we were all tweens and annoying and hormonal so they have definitely had their fair share of crappy, long road trips.
Saturday was quite overcast but we headed out to the beach hoping the sun would burn off the clouds...never happened but we still had fun. Brayden got his first taste of the beach life and he was quite apprehensive. He was scared of the ocean and didn't like the sand but Daddy started to build some sandcastles and he warmed right up when he realized he could be destructive and not get in trouble. He loved for Daddy to make a castle and he knocked it down with either his hands or stepping on it like King Kong!
Cami never made it out to the beach since by the time she got up from her morning nap, it was time for lunch and we had all headed back to the condo for lunch. I know what you are thinking and NO, we didn't leave Cami in the condo by herself (We may be the bad parents who let their infant watch DVD's but we aren't that bad people!!!). My wonderful mother doesn't take well to the sun so she stayed back and sat on the lanai (that's porch for those of you not from the Florida area) and read her book.
After the lunch, the kids napped and we (Chipper, Katie, Ben and I) played cards while it drizzled on and off. We also drank my Dad's fabulous margaritas...yummy and quite needed after the trip down.
We went out to dinner that night and then my mother informed us that she would put the kiddos to bed and that us youngin's could go out on the town...so we tried but Ben and I just can't hang anymore. We didn't leave to go out until after 9:30, which on a normal night would be just about the time I am changing into my jammies and heading off to my bed. We went to one bar and had one drink and we all decided that it would be more fun to head home and playing card games.
We played all sorts of games, some of which I hadn't played since college. After drinking a little too much and laughing a whole lot, we headed off to bed at 1 am. Yes, you read that right and yes, we realized the err in our ways when both Cami and Brayden wanted to get up before 7 the next morning...Ouch!
It was all worth it though and we had a great time spending with my brother and getting to know Katie better. Sorry we are such lame-o's and could show you are grand ole time. I know you are both used to the bright lights and late nights of the city but we are just sorry suburbanites with two kids and early bedtimes...hope you had just a little fun too!
The sunny part of our vacation began as Katie and Chip headed off to the airport on Sunday but don't worry, it didn't last long...the bi-otch Fay decided to come for an unwelcomed visit!

We used to stay up late and play cards while at the beach, but we didn't play once this year. Part of that is because we were all watching the Olympics every night, but the other part is because we can't hang anymore either! So sad.
Love the picture of him buried. I so don't miss Florida. Especially the hurricanes!
